Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has officially confirmed that Aime Mabika, the Chipolopolo Defender playing for Toronto FC in the United States, will be absent from the national team's camp. This development comes as the team gears up for the Africa Cup of Nations finals scheduled for January-February in Ivory Coast. Addressing the media during the year-end interaction in Lusaka, FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga clarified that contrary to some media reports, Mabika's absence is solely due to injury. Kamanga stated, "He was selected by the coaches, but the player himself and the club said the player is injured, that is the correct position. Beyond that, everything you heard is speculation." Mabika, who is yet to make his official debut for the Chipolopolo boys, was initially named in the 55-member provisional squad released by the Football Association of Zambia. However, his name was notably missing from the list released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), fueling speculations that the US-based defender had been dropped by the national team selectors. In a recent Instagram post, Mabika confirmed his presence at a London derby between Chelsea and Crystal Palace, dispelling rumors surrounding his absence. He wrote, "Beautiful beautiful night for a London derby," with Stamford Bridge tagged as the location. As of now, 30 summoned players are actively participating in the camp in Lusaka, with an additional five foreign-based players expected to join the team next week. The national team remains focused on preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, seeking to put together a formidable squad despite the absence of Aime Mabika due to his injury.
