Nkana FC initiated their 2024 campaign with a resounding 2-1 triumph over Mutondo Stars in week 19 of the MTN Super League. Goals from Eric Yema and Kedrick Mumba secured the victory, providing the 13 time champions, who are facing relegation, with a much needed win. Nkana Coach Ian Bakala expressed the team's determination to move past the challenges of the previous year and focus on securing success in the forthcoming season. "The language in camp is that everyone wants to win," said Bakala in a post-match interview. "We just have to forget about last year and I think we will do something good this year." Reflecting on their earlier defeat against Mutondo FC in the first round, Bakala commended the opposition's performance. "It was a 50/50 game the first game we lost but the boys did well despite conceding that goal," he acknowledged. "It wasn't easy. Mutondo are playing good football and I have to give them credit because where they are, it isn't easy." Looking ahead, Bakala emphasized the need for the team to remain focused on the upcoming games. "We just have to be focused on the next game," he stated. "The league is still on, but I give credit to the players." In an appeal to the fans, Coach Bakala called for continued support, acknowledging the challenges the team faces. "Coming to the second round, I think we are going to be giving them good games and they should just continue supporting us the way they have been doing," he said. "It is not an easy thing to be here at Nkana, but I think we are going to do better."
