In a dramatic turnaround, SuperSport TV has secured the rights to broadcast the Africa Cup of Nations finals, just days before the tournament kicks off in Ivory Coast. The pan-African sports broadcaster had initially come up short in acquiring the rights, sparking widespread fury across the continent, particularly in SuperSport's key markets like South Africa, Ghana, and Nigeria. Many threatened to cancel their subscriptions in protest. "Some big news coming out of SuperSport TV to show the AFCON matches," a source revealed to iDiski Times. The announcement has been made this evening. This U-turn comes after last week's cryptic statement from DSTV CEO Marc Jury, who hinted that "we still have time to pass," despite a leaked letter from MultiChoice (DSTV's parent company) confirming they wouldn't show the tournament. The initial decision had ignited social media, with fans voicing their outrage at missing out on the continental showpiece. CAF had previously sealed a deal with New World TV, but it appears SuperSport has managed to negotiate a last-minute sub-licensing agreement. This dramatic reversal is a massive win for SuperSport and African football fans . With the announcement expected imminently, millions can now breathe a sigh of relief and prepare to watch their national teams battle it out for AFCON glory.
