Football Association of Zambia President Andrew Kamanga has confirmed that Zambia will don a special kopa kit on Wednesday for their opening fixture of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations against the Democratic Republic of Congo. The kit will feature a star on the shirt to symbolize Zambia's 2012 Africa Cup of Nations triumph. In his Presidential corner on Monday, Kamanga stated, "I would like to confirm that the AFCON KoPa kit will debut on Wednesday." He clarified that the special edition will be limited and specifically for the tournament. "This will be a limited edition specific to the AFCON and is sporting a star in recognition of our past record as champions. This was done to add to the fun around the Africa Cup of Nations. We have no doubt that our lads will make our country proud." Kamanga also expressed his appreciation for the support the local kopa kit is receiving, saying, "As FAZ, we have noted with gratitude the massive support by Zambians at home and abroad towards the KoPa kit. The positivity around the country over the Chipolopolo's participation at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations gives us impetus to work even harder." He highlighted instances of companies and individuals showing support for the national team's return to the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 2015. "We have had corporates kitting their staff in KoPa as part of promoting the AFCON fever. Ordinary citizens have fully embraced KoPa and are doing a great job in promoting it." Kamanga further revealed the government's openness to supporting local initiatives like KoPa, mentioning meetings with the Minister of Finance Situmbeko Musokotwane and his tourism counterpart Rodney Sikumba. "This sits well with our long-term plan for financial independence. We are also grateful to the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts for the support towards the AFCON campaign." He concluded by urging Zambians to support the Chipolopolo boys during the AFCON and beyond.
