In a heart wrenching turn of events, Burkina Faso snagged a last minute win through a Bertrand Troare goal to beat Mauritania 1-0. Burkina Faso, who are still hunting for their first Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Title, managed to clinch their first ever win in their AFCON opening match when they scored a penalty in the 90+6 minute after Mauritania captain, Mohamed El Abd committed a foul against Burkinabe Issa Kabore. Despite Mauritania putting up a good fight with better chances, fate was not on their side as they recorded a loss, continuing their win less streak at the AFCON since their first ever qualification in 2019. Burkina Faso has now scored in their last 15 AFCON matches, the longest streak currently and second lengthiest in the history of the tournament after Egypt found the net 27 consecutive matches between 1957 and 1980. Burkinabe Ibrahim Blati Toure emerged man of the match after successfully making a spectacular save from Idrissa Thiam's free-kick. The Stallions now lead Group D with 3 points. Algeria and Angola follow behind after they drew 1-1 last night, while Mauritania is at the bottom of the group.
