Former Chipolopolo goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene says Zambia should not underestimate the Democratic Republic of Congo ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations Group F clash at 22:00 hours tonight. In an interview with Bolanews, Mweene said Congo is an aggressive team that uses a lot of pace and has an impressive midfield. He emphasized the need for Zambia to compete and level the energy in that area for them to win the game. "If we leave the midfield open, then we are in for it. We must understand that Congo is very aggressive and physical so we must let the ball do the talking. We have to overload the midfield so that it's equal," he said. The South African based goalkeeper further advised the team to move on from the Qualifiers and concentrate on the AFCON games now. "I hope the Qualifiers have gone out of our heads because the the football played when you are qualifying and when you are at the tournament, it's two different games. And moreover, most of the teams have re-enforced. You can't say the Ivory Coast we beat in the Qualifiers when they came here to Zambia is the same," he added. Mweene concluded by stating that Zambia should aim for a win or a draw if the worst happens because it will set the pace and determine their chances of survival beyond the group stage. In the 12 encounters between Zambia and DR Congo, Zambia secured victory in 4 instances, while DR Congo emerged triumphant twice, and the teams drew six times. The most recent meeting was in the 2015 AFCON, resulting in a 1-1 draw, contributing to Zambia's elimination from the group stage.
