Equatorial Guinea has inched closer to making it to the knockout stages of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations by demolishing Guinea Bissau 4-2 in the second Group A round of matches. Emilio Nsue slotted in a hat-trick in the match and he started with a first-half opener for Equatorial Guinea to put them in the lead. However, Guinea Bissau's Esteban Orozco's own goal sent the sides in level at half-time. Josete Miranda swiftly reclaimed Equatorial Guinea's lead early in the second half, setting the tone for a commanding performance. Nsue then showcased his skill by netting two more goals after the break, bringing his total to three in the match. These goals marked a significant addition to his lone previous AFCON goal in the 2015 tournament, where Equatorial Guinea secured a fourth-place finish. Guinea Bissau's Ze Turbo netted a consolation goal for Guinea-Bissau in stoppage time but the battle was already lost. This impressive win propelled Equatorial Guinea to the top of Group A with 4 points but the outcome of the Ivory Coast vs Nigeria match will ultimately decide their standing in the group, with the score currently 0-0 at halftime.
