On Thursday, the Kabwe-based Super League side, Prison Leopards, announced the departure of nine players in a bid to avoid relegation. With the January transfer window in full swing, Leopards are desperately shaking things up after a dismal first half of the season. Mired in second-from-last place with a meager 18 points from 20 games, Prison Leopards used the club's official social media channels on Thursday to announce the list of players no longer part of the Leopards' roster: Damiano Phiri, Levy Zulu, Garry Shamfwesa, Tshite Mweshi, Damiano Kola, Jacob Phiri, Fred Njobvu, Mapoma Mwewa, and Peter Banda. Leopards' first-round woes saw them manage just four victories, the lowest win rate in the league alongside bottom-dwellers Trident FC. Rumors swirl around a reluctance from the club's custodians, the Zambia Correctional Service, to provide adequate funds for transfer window activity, potentially jeopardizing their top-flight status. With the departure of nine players, the spotlight now turns to Coach Lameck Banda and his technical bench. The question looms whether they will receive the support of new arrivals before the league resumes in February, adding an element of intrigue to Leopards' quest for survival in the Super League.
