Madrid, who had lost 2-1 to Real Madrid in their first game of the year before suffering a surprise 1-0 Copa de SM La Reina exit at the hands of Atletico Bilbao in the round of 16, desperately needed a boost. This victory comes as a relief for the team that finished fifth last season for the first time in their history, thanks in large part to Kundananji's 25 league goals. The win moves them up to fourth on the table with 30 points, level on points with third-placed Real Madrid, after playing 14 games. The Zambian international will be hoping to return to the starting lineup when Madrid face Real Sociedad next in the league.
