DR Congo snatched a dramatic 1-1 draw against Morocco in the TotalEnergies 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Group F clash, throwing the qualification race wide open heading into the final matchday. Morocco, riding the crest of a 3-0 opening win over Tanzania, looked poised to repeat the feat against a Congo side held 1-1 by Zambia. PSG's Achraf Hakimi struck early for the Atlas Lions, firing home just six minutes in. Congo, desperate for three points to stay in contention, received a lifeline in the 38th minute when VAR awarded them a penalty. However, their hopes plummeted as Cédric Bakambu failed to convert from the spot, sending the miss and Morocco's slender lead into halftime. The second half saw a determined Congo press for an equalizer, but their wasteful finishing, a familiar foe from the Zambia draw, haunted them once again. It seemed Morocco would hold on for the win, securing their last-16 berth with a game to spare. But DR Congo refused to surrender. In the 76th minute, Silas Katompa Mvumpa found himself in the right place at the right time, burying a shot with what was surprisingly only their second attempt on target all game.
