Following Guinea's narrow 1-0 triumph against Gambia at the Africa Cup of Nations, six fans lost their lives in post-match celebrations. Aguibou Camara's decisive goal on Friday fueled jubilation in Conakry, with supporters taking to the streets in cars and on motorbikes. Unfortunately, amid the celebrations, Agence France Presse reported three deaths resulting from a high-speed collision between two cars while additional injuries occurred in road accidents. Witnesses observed fans perching on car bonnets in the capital city. And the Guinea Football Federation's Media Manager, Amadou Makadji, confirmed the heartbreaking news of six casualties to the BBC Sport Africa and urged caution in celebrations to avoid further tragedies. "What is important is that our fans and the public celebrate in a very measured fashion. They have to be very careful to not put themselves in danger, because the goal of football is to bring joy and not leave families bereaved," he said. "We do not want deaths to mourn, so we call on everyone to celebrate but to take care of themselves so that nothing happens to them. Guinea is a country where people are very very passionate about football and they experience football like nowhere else in the world." Meanwhile, Football legend Pascal Feindouno, who was instrumental in guiding Guinea to three consecutive AFCON quarter-finals from 2004 to 2008, echoed the plea for caution and emphasized the need to support the team without risking lives. Feindouno stressed the potential negative impact the news might have on the team's stability and urged the public to support the nation responsibly. In the ongoing AFCON, Guinea holds the second position in their group with three points, trailing behind the defending champions Senegal by just one point.
