With the departure of Ivorian goal-scoring machine Freddy Micheal, FC Muza's Andrew Phiri has his sights set firmly on the MTN FAZ Super League Golden Boot. Micheal left for Simba SC in Tanzania with 14 goals to his name, creating a void at the top of the Zambian scoring charts. Now sitting on 9 goals, Phiri believes he has a genuine chance to clinch the coveted Golden Boot if he continues his impressive form in the second half of the season. Speaking exclusively to Zed Sport, Phiri sees Micheal's departure as a motivating factor: "It feels good and motivating knowing I can win the Golden Boot if I continue scoring. With the top scorer leaving, it's now left open for everyone." However, the ambitious young striker is quick to emphasize that teamwork remains his primary focus: "Before individual goals, the team comes first. And with me helping the team win, I will also help myself with increasing my goal tally." Phiri's closest rivals in the Golden Boot race are Red Arrows' Ricky Banda (2021/22 winner) and Zesco United's Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba (now in Libya). He welcomes the challenge, stating: "Football is a competitive game and competition is open for everyone. I just have to concentrate and score as many goals as I can." The 22-year-old's ambition is evident by his target of scoring over 20 goals this season. This target received further fuel when he was recently awarded the "Fans' Player of the Half Season" trophy by Goodfellow Finance Limited.
