Fashion Sakala, Chipolopolo Boys striker, has generously donated 500 bags of mealie meal to Kawele Village in Chief Nzamane's eastern province, his childhood home. Sakala, who rose to prominence during Zambia's victorious 2017 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations campaign held on home soil, has enjoyed a dynamic career. He started at Nchanga Rangers in 2016 before moving to Zanaco FC. His U-20 success earned him a €150,000 transfer to Spartak Moscow's youth team in Russia, but he only stayed a year before joining Oostende in Belgium. In 2021, he moved to Scottish giants Rangers FC, and now plies his trade in the rich Saudi Professional League with Al-Fayha. Driven by the current high cost of food, particularly mealie meal, in Zambia, and the harsh impact of dry spells on his village, Sakala felt compelled to help. He shared his heartfelt message on Facebook: "'A community that made me, Kawele Village, is deeply impacted by the harsh realities of climate change,' Sakala wrote. 'Devastating the livelihoods of hardworking farmers and their agriculture, leaving many families struggling, without enough food.' "In reflection, I can't help but look back where I come from and thank God for blessing me with the ability to lend a helping hand. "Today I'm thrilled to share that I have successfully donated 500 bags of Mealie Meal to our village. This donation aims to alleviate the suffering caused by climate change, which has severely impacted our community's hard work in farming and agriculture. "My heart is filled with gratitude, knowing that I can be of help in bringing hope to the community that raised me. Together, let's continue spreading love and support, making a positive impact.'" Sakala's act of kindness serves as an inspiration not only for aspiring footballers but also for everyone with the means to make a positive impact on their communities.
