DR Congo finally found their attacking spark, coming from behind to defeat Guinea 3-1 and book their place in the semifinals of the 2023 TotalEnergies Cote D'Ivoire Africa Cup of Nations. Despite entering the last eight without a single win in regulation time, the Leopards displayed a newfound intensity on Friday, overcoming Guinea in a thrilling encounter at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara stadium. Guinea looked the brighter side early on, and captain Chancel Mbemba gifted them the lead in the 20th minute with a clumsy foul inside the box. Mohamed Bayo stepped up to convert the penalty, sending the Guinean supporters into a frenzy. However, Mbemba redeemed himself just seven minutes later, pouncing on a loose ball in the box to fire home the equalizer from close range. The teams went into the break locked at 1-1. The second half saw Congo grow in confidence, and they were awarded a penalty of their own in the 62nd minute after Yoane Wissa was brought down by Julian Jeanvier. Wissa, who plays his club football for Brentford, made no mistake from the spot, putting the Leopards ahead for the first time. Former West Ham United defender Arthur Masuaku then sealed the victory for Congo in the 82nd minute with a stunning free-kick from 30 yards out, leaving the Guinean goalkeeper stranded. This emphatic victory marks a significant turnaround for DR Congo, who had struggled throughout the tournament. They will now face either Mali or Ivory Coast in the semifinals, aiming to reach the final
