Emmanuel Banda made a welcome return to action on Sunday for his Croatian club HNK Rijeka, featuring in their comfortable 3-0 win against NK Istra 1961 in a round 21 fixture. Banda, who impressed with Zambia at the Africa Cup of Nations last month in Ivory Coast, entered the match as a second-half substitute in the 58th minute with the score already at 2-0. The Zambian midfielder played a key role in protecting the lead, contributing to his side's ability to add a third goal in the 74th minute. The former Nchanga Rangers man has made 17 appearances in the league so far, out of the 21 games played by his team. While he has only registered one goal to his name, his primary responsibility in the team lies in shielding the defense, typically operating in a defensive midfield role. This victory propelled HNK Rijeka above HNK Hajduk Split to the top of the table, sitting with 44 points, two ahead of their second-placed rivals. Their next challenge comes on Sunday against HNK Gorica, where they will aim to maintain their position at the summit of the Croatian SuperSport Hrvatska nogometna liga.
