The Chess Federation of Zambia (CFZ) has announced the selection of 36 talented young players to represent Zambia in the upcoming Africa Youth Chess Championship in South Africa. This prestigious event, scheduled to take place from June 15th to 23rd, 2024, in Gauteng, will bring together top junior chess players from over 30 countries across Africa. The selected players, comprising boys and girls in the Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, and Under 18 categories, were chosen through a rigorous school trials tournament held at the OYDC Zambia Sports Development Centre. This event was organized by the CFZ to identify the country's best young chess talents. According to CFZ President Lesley Chikuse, this year's championship will be a highly competitive affair, with over 30 countries competing for top honors. The African Junior Chess Championship also serves as a qualifier for the World Youth Chess Championship in India, providing an opportunity for Zambian players to showcase their skills on a global stage. It's a congratulations to all 36 selected players who have made Zambia proud by earning the right to represent the country in this big youth tournament.
