The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) has thrown its full weight behind the country's boxing team, led by Stephen Zimba, Margret Tembo, and Mwengo Mwale, as they prepare to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifiers in Bangkok, Thailand. The team will be coached by Wisdom Mudenda. In a meeting between NOCZ and the Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF), NOCZ President Alfred Foloko announced that the organization will fully fund the team's trip to Bangkok, including all expenses for the three athletes and one coach. This move demonstrates NOCZ's commitment to supporting Zambia's athletes in their quest for Olympic glory. ZBF President Dan Chiteule expressed his gratitude for the support, saying, "We've had fantastic collaboration with NOCZ and the government since I took over as President. This meeting was very important, and we discussed several issues that will benefit the Federation now and in the future." The boxing team has been in camp for almost a month, training hard for the qualifiers. Chiteule is confident that they will qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. "We're positive that they will make it. We're working on early camping and possibly training outside the country to prepare them for the games," he added. NOCZ President Alfred Foloko emphasized the importance of close interaction with affiliate National Federations, saying, "This is our third meeting with federations, and we're able to identify areas where we can work together for the benefit of the athletes." The boxing team is expected to leave for Bangkok this evening, competing in the 71 kg, 50 kg, and 57 kg weight categories, respectively. With NOCZ's full backing, they are poised to make a strong impression at the Olympic Qualifiers. Follow Zed Sport for all the latest sports news updates.
