JANNY SIKAZWE OFF TO DOHA FOR THE FIFA VAR INSTRUCTOR COURSE The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has sent renowned referee Janny Sikazwe to Doha for a FIFA VAR instructors' course as part of a long-term plan to upskill officials. Sikazwe, a two-time FIFA World Cup referee and lead consultant on the FAZ Video Assistant Referee (VAR) pilot project, departed for Doha today to join other global refereeing luminaries. Sikazwe, who officiated at the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups in Russia and Qatar, respectively, expressed his gratitude to FAZ for investing in his skills. "I am extremely delighted to get this opportunity and support from FAZ, who have always made use of my skills, even in retirement. VAR is definitely the future, and we as Zambians must ensure we are in tune with the rest of the world," he said. Notably, Sikazwe was one of the pioneering global referees in VAR when FIFA piloted the technology at the Club World Cup in Tokyo in 2018, featuring Real Madrid and Kashima Antlers. His participation in this course will further enhance his expertise and contribute to the development of VAR in Zambian football. FAZ's investment in Sikazwe's skills demonstrates their commitment to upskilling officials and staying abreast of the latest technologies in football. This move is expected to benefit Zambian football as a whole, as Sikazwe shares his knowledge and expertise with fellow officials and contributes to the growth of the sport in the country.
