BAY FC FALLS TO GOTHAM FC, 2-0, AT PAYPAL PARK Bay FC suffered a 2-0 defeat to NJ/NY Gotham FC at PayPal Park on Friday night, conceding two first-half goals and being unable to mount a comeback in the second half. This loss marks the first time Bay FC has been held scoreless at home this season and only the second time in 11 games in 2024. The match started with a promising opportunity for Bay FC, as Racheal Kundananji's header hit the left post in the 16th minute. However, Gotham FC took the lead in the 31st minute through Ella Stevens' goal, and she added a second just two minutes later, capitalizing on a Bay FC turnover. Despite limiting Gotham FC's chances in the second half, Bay FC was unable to find the back of the net against a stout defense that has allowed only seven goals in their first 10 games this season. The defending champions' victory was secured with a solid performance, and Bay FC was left to rue their missed opportunities. The match marked the first meeting between Bay FC and NJ/NY Gotham FC, with the two head coaches, Albertin Montoya and Juan Carlos Amorós, having previously faced each other in the final week of the 2022 regular season. Bay FC's lineup remained unchanged from their previous match against San Diego Wave FC on May 17. This result means Bay FC has now failed to score in two matches this season, a rare occurrence given their impressive scoring record. They will look to bounce back in their next match against the Chicago Red Stars on June 8 at Wrigley Field, a historic occasion marking the first-ever women's soccer match at the iconic stadium. The match kicks off at 4:30 p.m. (Pacific) on ION. Follow Zed Sport for all the latest sports news updates. Image credit: Bay FC
