ORLANDO PRIDE SETS NEW NWSL RECORD WITH EIGHTH-CONSECUTIVE VICTORY The Orlando Pride made history on Friday night, American time, defeating Portland Thorns FC 2-1 at Inter&Co Stadium to secure their eighth consecutive victory and set a new record for the longest winning streak in NWSL history. The Pride also extended their unbeaten streak to 11 straight games to start the season, remaining atop the league standings. Barbra Banda was the star of the show, scoring two first-half goals to bring her season total to eight. Her first goal was a header, her fourth of the season, and her second finish tied her with Sophia Smith for the Golden Boot race. Banda's brace was also her third of the season, tying the club record for most braces in a single season. The Pride defense was able to stymie the Thorns' attack, with goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse making three saves to preserve the win. The visitors did manage to score a goal in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome the Pride's lead. With this win, the Pride have set a new NWSL record for most consecutive wins and have extended their unbeaten streak to 11 games to start the season. They will enter an international break before traveling to face the San Diego Wave on June 7. "We are thrilled to have set this new record," said Head Coach Seb Hines. "Our team has been working hard, and it's great to see them getting the results they deserve. We will enjoy this win, but we know we have to keep working hard to stay on top." The Zambian fans can watch Barbra Banda in the next match, which will be broadcast on Prime Video. Follow Zed Sport for all the latest sports news updates. Image credit: Orlando Pride
