The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) has been thanked by OYDC Zambia Acting Chief Executive Officer Benjamin Tembo for hosting the 2024 Olympic Day celebrations at the multisport facility. Tembo expresses satisfaction that the NOCZ on June 22, 2024, organized hundreds of kids from different sports disciplines to participate in the 2024 Olympic Day, which falls on June 23. The day is a worldwide celebration of sport and getting active to honor Pierre de Coubertin's founding of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894. The acting CEO reminded sports associations in Zambia and the surrounding area that the sports facility works to provide space for events of this kind, which are known to cheer on a lot of kids who want to compete in the Olympics in the future. Victor Banda, the chairperson of the National Olympic Academy (NOA) Commission, said that the festivities on Saturday are just the start of the several events the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) has planned to honor Olympic Day. Banda noted that because the country will be sending athletes to Paris 2024, the birthplace of Pierre de Coubertin, the NOCZ is committed to promoting the spirit of Olympism through a variety of peaceful sporting activities. Several activities were displayed on Saturday at the OYDC Zambia, beginning with the Olympic Flame for Peace Torch Relay, which began at the Metropolis Site in Kalundu and traveled to the Olympafrica before arriving at the OYDC Zambia. Other athletes at the OYDC Zambia shown athletic abilities in taekwondo, hockey, netball, boxing, baseball5, handball, weightlifting, and para-powerlifting. It was a colourful occasion attended by various notable individuals, including two Greek Olympic gold medalists, Athanasia Tsoumeleka and George Tzelilis. Other attendees included representatives from the Orthodox Archdiocese of Zambia, the Zambia/Hellenic Olympic Organizing Committee (ZHOOC), and local sports federations, among others. Several medals were awarded at the end of the event to visiting Olympic gold medalists, as well as local organizations and sports associations.
