Matero Magic, Zambia's national champions and the country's representative in the upcoming BAL campaign, is gaining popularity in the region. David Musonda coached the champions of the Malawi Bravehearts International Basketball Challenge, which took place in Lilongwe. Magic defeated the hosts' young Bravehearts men in a 67-51 final. The Zambians finished the first quarter 21-15. In the second quarter, they defeated the Malawi National Champions. They held Bravehearts to just 5 points in the second quarter, compared to 19 for them. Magic finished the first half with a 40-19 score. Bravehearts came back strong in the third quarter, scoring 17 points to Magic's 12. The third quarter was likewise a competitive game, but Magic refused to curve in. They scored 15 points against the hosts' 14 and won the game to capture gold. As has become the custom, skipper Chongo Chona would lead from the front. He recorded a double-double of 15 points and 16 rebounds. Augustine Kainda also had a tremendous game, scoring 18 points to lead everyone. Everyone else from Matero played well, with a total of 7 players scoring an average of 3 points each game. The biggest letdown for Bravehearts was their reliance on a single offensive player.
