The Musanza Derby clash between Green Eagles and Muza saw referee Leonard Akapelwa inadvertently allow Green Eagles player Martin Zulu to continue playing with two yellow cards. The match, which ended with a resounding 4-0 victory for Muza, became shrouded in controversy due to this oversight. Reports emerged on Monday, September 25th, 2023, suggesting that the referee had issued a staggering 16 cards during the match. However, FAZ's Referees Manager, Aziph Banda, swiftly dismissed these claims, clarifying that only nine cards were given out during the intense derby - eight yellow cards and one red. Banda emphasized that the official reports from both the referee and match commissioners corroborated this account. However, Muza proprietor Keith Mweemba was quoted by the Times of Zambia saying, "Yes, we saw that from where I sat, and we have a video, but I don't want to take anything away from this brilliant performance by talking about the referees because they are human. This is a great win." Despite the chaos on the field, the focus remains on Muza's exceptional victory, a feat never achieved against Eagles by such a margin.
