Zambia's Fridah Kabwe was elated as she spoke to the media on Wednesday, reflecting on her hat-trick performance in the Copper Queens' 5-1 victory over Comoros in the group stage of the 2023 COSAFA Women's Championship. The 25-year-old ZESCO Ndola Girls striker, who was making her debut for the national team, expressed that scoring three goals was a dream come true for her. "I feel great scoring three goals in my first time playing for the national team," Kabwe said. "It wasn't easy, but it's by God's grace." Zambia entered the match against Comoros needing a win to keep their title defense hopes alive, and Kabwe believes that the halftime team talk from the coach helped the team turn things around after going into the break with a tied score of 1-1. "Yesterday's (Tuesday) game wasn't easy, especially in the first half, as we wasted many chances," Kabwe said. "But in the second half, we played well after following the coach's instructions, and we managed to score four goals." Kabwe opened the scoring for Zambia in the 19th minute, then added her second goal in the 57th minute, and completed her hat-trick in the 74th minute. The Copper Queens now face Zimbabwe in the semifinals on Friday, and Kabwe is confident that the team can succeed. "The game won't be easy, but it's up to us to work hard and follow instructions," Kabwe said. "We can make it easy, and we will win and reach the finals." Kabwe also mentioned that it being her first time with the national team and being able to defend the Cosafa Title would bring her even greater happiness.
