The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is set to host its inaugural workshop for groundsmen in the Zambian Premier League this month. The workshop is scheduled to take place from September 19 to September 21, 2023, in Chipata, the administrative capital of Eastern province. This three-day workshop will incorporate both theoretical and practical aspects. Maintaining and managing football pitches has consistently been a concern, and FAZ aims to address this issue by equipping groundsmen with the latest knowledge and techniques through this workshop. The objective is to actively engage and empower groundsmen within the Zambian professional football community. Iva Lengwe, the Club Licensing Manager, explained that this workshop follows a successful similar event led by FIFA and the Moroccan Football Federation in Rabat, in which FAZ participated. The intention is to share the knowledge gained from this event to improve pitch standards in the Zambian Premier League (ZPL). Groundsmen from both the Super League and the National Division One League will participate. The key objectives of the workshop include educating groundsmen on effective pitch maintenance and management practices, and providing valuable information to the Association and the League about pitch maintenance. Additionally, the workshop aims to promote the establishment of structures within football to facilitate the collection, archiving, sharing, and dissemination of ideas related to pitch management and maintenance.
