It was an emotional day for a young taekwondo player, Matilda Njobvu, as she faced defeat in the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge on Saturday, July 29, 2023. Njobvu, representing Olympafrica, fought valiantly in the U15 age category but ultimately lost to OYDC's Hennery Tembo, who proved to be a formidable opponent. Disheartened by her second loss of the day, Njobvu attributed it to insufficient training due to school commitments. Nevertheless, she remains determined to make a comeback and dominate her category. Her dream of competing in the Youth Olympics and Commonwealth Games still burns brightly, knowing her true potential in the ring. On the other side, OYDC's Hennery Tembo, victorious over Njobvu, expressed her happiness with the win. She gratefully acknowledged the center's management for providing the necessary facilities and support for their training and competitions. Hennery further revealed that taekwondo has played a crucial role in shaping her as a disciplined individual within society. The sport has kept her away from negative influences, and instead, she spends her free time training after school. The Teulings Youth Sports Challenge at OYDC Zambia attracted more than 300 athletes from various sports disciplines, including taekwondo, rugby, basketball, and beach volleyball. These young athletes showcased their potential, inspiring hopes for a bright future as sports heroes.
