Athletes from clubs under OYDC Zambia's ownership continue to assert their supremacy in youth competitions. On August 19, 2023, the OYDC Taekwondo club once again secured victory in the 'Poomsae' group showcase for the U12 age category, surpassing Black Angels. Poomsae involves a series of meticulously choreographed defensive and offensive movements, growing in complexity as Taekwondo practitioners advance in skill. The triumphant OYDC team comprised Haggai Muyembe, Henry Tembo, and Chadwi Mudenda, while Black Angels fielded Mapalo Mulenga, Lameck Lishita, and Peter Machona. Notable competitors from OlympAfrica and Lusaka Leopards were also in attendance. This competition was part of the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge, organised by OYDC Zambia and supported by Coen Teulings, Chairman of Merifin Capital in Belgium, a long-time sponsor of youth games at the centre since 2011. Paterson Ngoma, Teulings Taekwondo coordinator, praised the exceptional talent and unwavering dedication of these young athletes, expressing confidence in their potential to represent their country at international youth games. He extended gratitude to OYDC management and Coen Teulings for their continuous support, which plays a pivotal role in helping sports associations like the Taekwondo Federation Zambia identify and nurture promising athletes for senior and junior national teams. Meanwhile, athletes from various other disciplines, including basketball, hockey, judo, and beach volleyball, were fully engaged in fierce competition at the facility. Likemore Mahunje, OYDC Zambia programs officer, revealed that over 500 young athletes had converged at the centre to proudly represent their teams and clubs in the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge. As the year draws to a close, teams will soon identify and select standout players who will have the opportunity to compete for ultimate honors at the grand finale of the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge, where deserving individuals will be awarded coveted trophies and exquisite medals.
