Emerald Bay Limited, trading as Betway Zambia, has joined the Zambian Premier League as one of the sponsors following its disconnection from the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and the launch of the Zambian Premier League on 13th September 2023. At an event held in Lusaka today, attended by senior government officials, football administrators, and members of the press, FAZ President Andrew Kamanga called for more funding into Zambian football. In his speech at the ceremony, Kamanga stated that the launch of the ZPL signals the beginning of a new era in Zambian football. He mentioned that FAZ has handed over the management and commercial rights of the game to the ZPL in order to focus on the management of the national teams and development leagues. Kamanga also mentioned that FAZ has a strong 10-year strategic plan, known as Vision 2030, which prioritizes the development of women and youth. He highlighted that the success of these development leagues will lead to a talent pool for the Premier League, managed by the ZPL. However, Kamanga also acknowledged that FAZ faces several challenges, including the need for more financial resources. He appealed to the Minister of Finance to expedite the process of raising a ten million United States dollars bond through a private placement. The aim is to promote financial self-sufficiency at FAZ, which would free up resources in the national treasury for other important areas. Kamanga also extended his congratulations to Betway for partnering with the ZPL. He expressed his belief that this partnership would create opportunities for more sponsors to invest in Zambian football. He emphasized that there are numerous possibilities for prospective sponsors in the game, and now is the perfect time for them to get involved, with Zambians showing increased support for their teams, whether they are clubs or national teams. Kamanga stated that FAZ continues to actively seek sponsorship for the women's game, whether it is for the league or any of the national teams.
