Zambia Women's National Team coach, Bruce Mwape, has unveiled his squad for the upcoming consecutive friendlies against Morocco, scheduled for 22nd and 26th September 2023, in Rabat. Mwape has opted for a core group of players who represented Zambia at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. Notably, he has included local talents, showcasing the prowess of players like Thelma Cheela from ZANACO Ladies and Salome Phiri from Green Buffaloes. The coaching staff views these friendlies as an ideal preparation opportunity for the 2023 COSAFA Women's Championship, slated to take place from 4th to 5th October in South Africa. Additionally, they have a keen eye on players participating in the FAZ Women's Super League, commencing on 16th September, as part of the Olympic qualifiers before finalizing the COSAFA squad. In the goalkeeping department, the team boasts the skills of Catherine Musonda, who plies her trade with Tomiris-Turan in Kazakhstan. She's joined by Eunice Sakala from Nkwazi Queens, Leticia Lungu representing ZESCO Ndola Girls, and Loveness Tonge of Prison Leopards. Together, they form a formidable group of keepers ready to guard Zambia's goalposts. The midfield is a powerhouse of talent and creativity, featuring Hellen Chanda from Hakkarigucu Spur in Turkey, Ireen Lungu, who also plays for BIIK Kazygurt Shymkent in Kazakhstan, and Evarine Susan Katongo representing ZISD Women. Mary Wilombe, Susan Banda of Red Arrows, Avell Chitundu from ZESCO Ndola Girls, and Comfort Selemani from Elite Ladies bring their skills to the midfield battleground, where control and creativity reign supreme. Upfront, the striking force promises goals and excitement with Ochumba Oseke Lubanji from Red Arrows, Hellen Mubanga of Zaragoza CFF in Spain, Rachael Kundananji from Madrid CFF in Spain, and Barbra Banda, who plays in Shanghai Shengli, China, and is expected to lead the charge.
