The Zambia Copper Queens' pathway to return to the Olympics has been revealed, with the third-round fixtures all in place. Eight teams are vying for places in the last round of qualifiers to determine which two countries will represent the African continent at the 2024 Paris Olympics for the women's football tournament. Zambia will battle it out against Ghana in a two-legged affair, with the first leg set for February 19th in Ghana and the return leg on February 22nd in Zambia. The winner of the Zambia-Ghana tie will play the winner of the two-legged affair between Morocco and Tunisia to determine which team makes the final two and qualifies for the Olympics. On the other pathway, South Africa will play Tanzania in the third round, with Nigeria playing Cameroon. The winner of the Tanzania-South Africa tie will play against the winner of the Nigeria-Cameroon tie for a place in the final two, who will be the continental representatives. Zambia was the sole representative at the 2021 Olympics, and they will be hoping to make their return to the competition, having gained experience at their last outing and the 2023 World Cup debut appearance. However, to do so, they need to first overcome Ghana, who are on a nine-game winning streak, before they start thinking of a tie with either Morocco or Tunisia in the final rounds of qualifiers. It will be interesting to see which two nations will represent Africa in women's football at the Paris Olympics, with the remaining eight teams in the qualification stages all boasting players capable of causing upsets to opponents. For coach Bruce Mwape, he will be hoping that all his Queens are available and fit come February next year when they travel to Ghana for the opening leg. The Zambia Copper Queens will be looking to build on their recent successes and make their return to the Olympics.
