Maestro United Football Club's (FC MUZA) owner and president, Keith Mweemba, shed light on the reason behind his unconventional role as the club's assistant coach. This announcement follows mounting concerns from fans, questioning Mweemba's presence on the coaching staff despite the club's professional coaching team. Mweemba's unique position as assistant coach was unveiled in the context of FC MUZA's participation in the CAF Confederation Cup, with newly appointed coach Mathews Ndlovu at the helm. Addressing the media on Wednesday, 13th September, as the team geared up for their Confederation Cup first-leg showdown against Diables Noir, Mweemba clarified that the decision was rooted in CAF regulations. According to Mweemba, "CAF regulations require that the Head Coach is supposed to be a CAF A license holder, whereas his Assistant is supposed to be a CAF B or above." He continued, "But in our situation, it so happens that I’m the only one who is a CAF B holder, that's why you have seen that while I am the president of the club, I am an assistant (Coach) at the Continental level only." Additionally, Mweemba explained that another one of their coaches holds a CAF C license, and due to regulatory constraints, he assumes the role of team manager rather than assistant coach. Emphasising the club's commitment to professionalism, Mweemba stated that, regardless of his position as president, he abides by the principles set by CAF regulations, emphasising that when it comes to football, he serves as the assistant to the Head Coach. This revelation came after fans expressed their concerns when Mweemba was spotted on the technical bench during FC MUZA's impressive 3-0 victory over Cano Sports Academy in the CAF Confederation Cup first-round second leg at National Heroes Stadium. Notably, this isn't the first time Keith Mweemba has taken on the role of Assistant Coach. Back in 2018, when the club secured promotion to the Zambian Super League, he was also an integral part of the technical bench under Coach Nowel Phiri. Looking ahead, Mweemba unveiled the club's ambitious 10-year strategic plan, which includes objectives to clinch the Zambia Super League Title, secure victory in the ABSA Cup, and make a mark in the CAF Champions League.
