The Copper Queens got back on track to defend their Cosafa Cup title with a comfortable 3-1 win over Angola on Saturday afternoon, moving to the top of Group B with four points. Zambia made five changes to the team that drew 0-0 in the opening match against Mozambique. Esther Banda, Natasha Nanyangwe, Sarah Jere, Enelesi Phiri, and Jackline Nkole replaced Judith Soko, Pauline Zulu, Comfort Selemani, Salome Phiri, and Maylan Mulenga. The substitutes had an immediate impact, with Sarah Jere scoring from close range just three minutes into the game, taking advantage of a failure by the Angolan keeper to deal with a Susan Banda free-kick. Jackline Nkole doubled Zambia's lead in the 20th minute with a stunning 30-yard strike, leaving the keeper with no chance. From that point on, the Copper Queens dominated the match, forcing a couple of saves from the Angolan keeper before Sarah Jere scored her second goal of the day in the 84th minute. Angola managed to score a goal back in the 92nd minute after Zambian keeper Leticia Lungu's attempt to parry the ball over the bar failed, but it was too little, too late. Zambia's next fixture will be against Comoros, who will play Mozambique later today.
