FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed on Friday that the Eritrean National Football Federation (ENFF) has withdrawn from the FIFA World Cup 2026™ preliminary competition. The ENFF gave no reason for its withdrawal, which comes less than a week before Eritrea's opening game against Morocco on November 16th. Eritrea was drawn in Group E alongside Morocco, Zambia, Congo, Tanzania, and Niger. We reported their withdrawal from participating in the qualifiers on November 7th, and FIFA and CAF have now made it official. With Eritrea's withdrawal, Group E will now be contested by the remaining five teams. All of Eritrea's matches have been cancelled, while the rest of the match schedule for Group E remains unchanged. This is the second time Eritrea has withdrawn from the qualifying stages in recent years. They also withdrew from the 2014 AFCON qualifiers.
