The Copper Queens put on a five-star performance to thrash Comoros 5-1 and book their place in the semifinals of the 2023 COSAFA Women's Championship. Zambia needed a win against Comoros, who were winless going into the final group game, as they were second in the group behind Mozambique. The Copper Queens responded to the demand in perfect fashion, opening the scoring just 19 minutes into the match through Fridah Kabwe. Comoros benefited from poor defending from Zambia just before halftime to equalize through Mohamed Roukia in the 42nd minute, but the Copper Queens were not to be denied. Assistant Coach Florence Mwila made three substitutions at the start of the second half, which paid off immediately. Salome Phiri set up Kabwe for her second goal of the match in the 58th minute, and just a minute later, captain Lushomo Mweemba struck from outside the box to make it 3-1 for Zambia. Kabwe completed her hat-trick in the 74th minute, and Sarah Jere put the cherry on the cake with a penalty kick after Eneless Phiri was brought down in the box. Jere's goal was her third of the tournament. Zambia finished the group as outright winners with 7 points, level on points with Mozambique, who beat Angola 1-0 to keep their hope alive of a semifinal place through the best loser slot.
