The Footballers and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (FAWUZ) has commended the outstanding performance of Kabwe Warriors Football Club, which has propelled them to the top of the Premier League table. FAWUZ General Secretary Joe Kaunda expressed his appreciation during a meeting with Kabwe Warriors FC players following their training session at the Godfrey Ucar Chitalu Stadium in Kabwe on Monday. Kaunda praised the team's resilience and unwavering focus, extending his best wishes for their pursuit of league glory. He emphasized the significance of players joining the union, enabling them to maintain their focus on the pitch while FAWUZ represents their welfare and employment interests comprehensively. Kaunda outlined the array of services the Union provides, including player representation, financial literacy, assistance with contract interpretation, legal services, and advice through in-house lawyers, even during negotiations. He also highlighted FAWUZ's programs dedicated to player welfare and conditions of service, as well as post-career initiatives, including tailored insurance services for players. Furthermore, Kaunda introduced the Zed Card initiative, a comprehensive booklet produced in collaboration with the global players' union FIFPro. This booklet encompasses essential information for a player's career, covering guidelines for conduct, pre-match preparations, dietary recommendations, anti-doping measures, and substance abuse awareness. Players Relations Officer Kelvin Mushipe stressed the importance of becoming a union member, underlining FAWUZ's open-door policy, which offers support to both members and non-members in need of assistance. Legal Counsel Friday Mwandila assured the players that FAWUZ would represent them in case of any challenges, whether related to their contracts or injuries. FAWUZ has launched an extensive membership recruitment drive, and the visit to Kabwe is part of this initiative. The Union's affiliation with the World Players Union FIFPro will lead to the introduction of player-focused programs as part of its mandate.
