On Saturday, July 15th, 2023, in a thrilling international non-title bout held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre, bantamweight boxer David Mwale showcased his exceptional skills by delivering a stunning knockout victory over Tanzanian fighter Patrick Kimweri. Mwale, representing Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotion (OQBP), wasted no time in the ring, ending the fight within a remarkable 50 seconds of the first round. Mwale strategically connected with an uppercut that stunned Kimweri, swiftly followed by a powerful left hook that sent his opponent crashing to the canvas. Although Kimweri managed to beat the count and rise to his feet, he was visibly disoriented and required assistance from the referee to maintain balance. Recognizing the danger Kimweri was in, the referee decided to halt the fight, much to Kimweri's disappointment as he expressed his desire to continue. Nonetheless, the referee stood by her decision, prioritizing the well-being of the fighters. Following his impressive victory, Mwale expressed his readiness to take on any title challenge that his manager secures for him. While acknowledging the remarkable nature of his first-round knockout against Kimweri, Mwale remains level-headed and focused on future opportunities. In an interview, he stated, "I am prepared for any title challenge, even if it were to happen tomorrow. I will be ready to fight and emerge victorious. I am confident that my manager recognizes my readiness, and I believe my next bout will be a title fight." The boxing event also featured the return of the exciting bantamweight boxer Alfred Muwowo, who faced off against Yusuf Ali from Malawi. However, Muwowo's performance fell short of his usual standards. Fortunately for Muwowo, Ali sustained a left shoulder injury at the end of the fourth round, leading his corner to call off the fight and granting Muwowo a technical knockout victory. In other notable results, Democratic Republic of Congo boxer Ali Kabeya delighted the crowd with his exceptional skill and precision, securing a victory over Dickson Saidi from Malawi in the middleweight category. The fight was stopped by the referee in the fourth round as Saidi became increasingly fatigued. Zambia's Lolita Muzeya faced off against Joyce Awino from Kenya in the super welterweight category. Awino's corner made the decision to throw in the towel during the third round as their boxer struggled to defend herself. Additionally, Gracious Simwalizi emerged triumphant in an exciting lightweight non-title bout against Zimbabwean boxer Bongani Makovora. The middleweight category witnessed a draw as Zimbabwean boxers Lazarous Sithole and Clever Sithole showcased their skills in a closely contested match. Christopher Malunga, the Operations Manager of OQBP, expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the boxers during the event. Malunga revealed that OQBP is organizing two title fights, with David Mwale being one of the contenders. "I can confidently say that Oriental is back. The challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic affected us significantly, but I assure you that we have made a strong comeback. We are currently arranging for title fights for two of our boxers, with David being one of them. Further details regarding the other boxer will be provided in due course," he remarked.
