Patrick Chinyemba, the Zambian boxing sensation bound for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, is gearing up for intensive training overseas. The Vice-President of the Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF), Mashekwa Nalumango, revealed that Chinyemba is set to undergo preparatory training in either Cuba or Algeria, two nations known for their strong boxing traditions. Nalumango emphasized the importance of comprehensive training, with plans to have Chinyemba in camp for four months to enhance his chances of clinching medals at the Paris Games scheduled from 26th July to 11th August. Chinyemba made history by becoming the first Zambian athlete to qualify for the Paris Olympics after securing a gold medal during the continental qualifiers in Senegal earlier this month. This marks his second appearance at the Olympics, following his participation in the 2021 Tokyo Games, where he reached the round of 16. Nalumango stated, "We are planning to take Chinyemba and indeed any other boxers who qualify to Cuba, which is one of the biggest countries in boxing. We are also considering an Arab country like Algeria." He further expressed their eagerness to secure additional Olympic qualifications in the remaining two qualifiers scheduled for Italy and Thailand in February and March, respectively. The Minister of Youth, Sport, and Arts, Elvis Nkandu, assured full support for Chinyemba's preparations, emphasizing the importance of thorough training to ensure the boxer's success. Nkandu stated, "Preparations are key for the boxer to succeed, and the state will support him."
