Zambia's women's national football team has been knocked out of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup after suffering two heavy defeats in their opening two matches. The Copper Queens were beaten 5-0 by Japan in their first game and then lost 5-0 to Spain on Wednesday. Zambia has now conceded 10 goals in two matches and has yet to score a single goal. The win for Spain means they join Japan in the last 16, while Zambia and Costa Rica will play their final group game against each other as a dead rubber. Despite their poor results, there were some signs of improvement from Zambia in their second game against Spain. Goalkeeper Eunice Sakala made some important saves, and the team created a few chances of their own. However, Spain were simply too strong for Zambia on the day, and the African nation was eventually blown away by their opponents' superior quality. Zambia's coach, Bruce Mwape, will be disappointed with his team's results, but he will be hoping that they can finish their World Cup campaign on a positive note against Costa Rica. The final group game between Zambia and Costa Rica will take place on Tuesday, July 31st.
