The thirteen-time Zambian Premier League champions, Nkana FC, finally ended their winless streak in the 2023/24 season with a 1-0 victory over Prison Leopards on their home turf in Kabwe. The breakthrough came in the first half when Harrison Chisala found the back of the net with a well-executed goal. This crucial strike was enough to secure Nkana's first victory of the campaign and mark a turning point for the team. Coach Ian Bakala expressed his belief that this win was a long time coming, attributing it to the hard work put in during training and the character displayed by the players in their previous games. "We are improving with each game, and today we not only scored early but also displayed resilience, even after missing a penalty. The team is gelling well, and I hope to see further improvement." Nkana FC had a challenging start to the season, enduring a series of beatings and draws in their first eight fixtures. As a result, they found themselves in 17th position on the league table, firmly rooted in the bottom two. However, this victory over Prison Leopards has injected fresh hope into the team and their supporters. Bakala emphasized the importance of focusing on the three points at this stage. He acknowledged that the players were still adapting to the team's philosophy despite the draws and the recent win. "We are still adapting to the philosophy, but we are getting there. The most important thing is that we are picking up points. We need to continue working hard and focus on the next game." With the win now behind them, the coach and the team are preparing to face Nkwazi in their next game, with the hope of getting a second win of the season.
