On Sunday, 27th August 2023, Zambia's representatives in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, Power Dynamos and FC MUZA, achieved significant victories on home turf, securing their spots in the next round of these prestigious competitions. In the MTN Super League champions' corner, Power Dynamos demonstrated resilience and determination as they rallied to a 1-0 victory over the Namibian side, allowing them to advance to the pre-group stage. This success was achieved on goal difference, following a 2-1 loss in the first leg. Power Dynamos sealed their victory with goals from Kondwani Mhango and Andrew Phiri, the latter from a penalty spot. The icing on the cake was a goal from the Congolese attacker, Bobo Angwenga. Their collective effort secured their progress with a 4-1 aggregate scoreline. This was a remarkable feat, considering they had played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg against the same opponents in Malabo just the week before. Meanwhile, FC MUZA also impressed as they secured their advancement with an impressive aggregate score of 4-1. This achievement followed a 1-1 draw with their Malabo-based opponents in the initial leg. Looking ahead, FC MUZA is set to face CSMD Diables Noirs from Congo Brazzaville this Sunday in the pre-group stage of the Confederation Cup, marking their next step in this prestigious continental club competition. The anticipation is building, with just four days remaining before the thrilling 2023/24 CAF Champions League Second Round, First Leg match featuring Zambian champions Power Dynamos against Simba SC of Tanzania. Football fans can hardly wait for this exciting clash on the horizon.
