SuperSport, Africa's leading pay-TV broadcaster, has reaffirmed its partnership with the Zambian Premier League (ZPL) in a move that is expected to boost the development of football in the country. The new partnership, which was announced at the launch of the ZPL yesterday, will see SuperSport continue to broadcast the league's matches to its subscribers across Africa. "We are proud to be the partner of the Zambian Premier League," said Thando Bakumeni, SuperSport Senior Commercial Manager for Africa. "We value the partnership that we have here and we want to continue working together as a unity. We would love to see that when we meet like this and talk, actions should be followed with accountability by everyone involved." SuperSport has been one of the longest-standing partners of the Zambian league, having first signed a deal in 2007. The deal was renewed in 2010 and later a five-season deal was signed in 2015. FAZ President Andrew Kamanga said that he hopes the formation of the ZPL will attract more sponsors besides MTN and SuperSport. "I believe that the ZPL leadership will expedite the process of commercializing the league to enable teams in the league to receive more money," said Kamanga. "More than the 1 million kwacha each club is currently guaranteed, as most clubs' budget is higher than the current amount." The ZPL was launched yesterday at an event that took place at Lusaka's Golden Peacock Hotel. The formation of the ZPL will allow the league to be run by football clubs themselves, separate from the Football Association of Zambia.
