The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has officially launched the Zambian Premier League (ZPL), marking a significant moment in the country's football history. Under this development, the ZPL gains independent management rights, while FAZ shifts its focus to national teams and development leagues. SuperSport Africa is actively engaging with Zambian clubs to explore opportunities arising from this historic move. During a gathering attended by SuperSport Africa, FAZ, and the 18 Super League teams, FAZ President Andrew Kamanga emphasised the importance of this transition, describing it as a positive step forward. Kamanga clarified that this transition is not a divorce but a partnership aimed at elevating Zambian football. The delinking process has historical roots dating back to 1962, with past challenges along the way. As part of the new structure, FAZ will maintain its role overseeing football in the country, focusing on national teams, women's football, and grassroots development. SuperSport Africa expressed enthusiasm for this collaboration, while ZPL board chairperson Kephas Katongo highlighted the league's goals, including creating passive income for clubs, capacity building, and enhancing fan engagement, especially among millennials. The delinking process began in 2009 and gained momentum in 2021 when FAZ amended its constitution to accommodate the ZPL. The ZPL has now established its offices within Football House, signifying a new era for Zambian football.
