Two young Zambian footballers, Gift Mphande and Kingstone Mutandwa, will leave for Italy next week to attend trials with Serie A side Cagliari FC. The duo, who play for National League side Atletico Lusaka, have been invited to Europe by the newly-promoted Italian club. Mutandwa, who joined Atletico Lusaka in August 2021 from Central Province's Division 3 side Sunshine, spent two months at Israeli top-flight side Maccabi Petah Tikva. Mphande, on the other hand, joined Atletico Lusaka from Msisi Academy and has featured for both the Zambia U-20 and U-23 National Teams. Both players were part of the Zambia Under-20 team at the CAF U20 African Cup of Nations earlier this year. Mphande was also an unused substitute during Zambia's African Cup of Nations qualifier against Ivory Coast. The trials will give the two players a chance to impress Cagliari FC and earn a contract with the Serie A club.
