The legends match, which took place at the packed DK Stadium in Chipata, saw the Chipolopolo Legends secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Malawi Legends. The opening goal of the match arrived within the first 20 minutes, courtesy of Clifford Mulenga, the recipient of the 2007 CAF Young Player of the Year award. He set the tone for the Chipolopolo Legends. Only six minutes later, Ignatius Lwipa doubled their lead, putting the team firmly in control. The Flames' legend, Jimmy Zakazaka, managed to find the back of the net just three minutes into the second half, keeping the match intense. Despite the best efforts of both sides, further goals remained elusive. However, the ultimate victors of the day were the fans who witnessed the spirit of unity displayed by these two legendary teams. Coach Patrick Phiri, along with his assistant Kenneth 'Bubble' Malitoli, fielded a strong lineup for the Chipolopolo. Kalililo Kakonje guarded the goal, protected by a sturdy defense comprising Jimmy Chisenga, Fackson Kapumbu, Kennedy Nketani, and Billy Mwanza. In the midfield, Clive Hachilensa led the proceedings as captain, ably supported by players like Felix Katongo, Justin Zulu, and the talented winger, Clifford Mulenga. The striking partnership featured Given Singuluma and Ignatius Lwipa. Among the substitutes on the bench were players such as Danny Munyau, Fwayo Tembo, Jonas Sakuwaha, Hichani Himmonde, Nchimunya Mweetwa, and Dennis Makinka, some of whom were later brought into the game to make their mark. On the Malawi side, a strong starting lineup included Simeon Kapuza in goal. Notable figures like Ntchisi North Member of Parliament Arnold Kadzanja, James Sangala, Fisher Kondowe, and Jimmy Zakazaka represented the Young Chimodzi-coached side. The day also featured a curtain-raiser match, where the U17 teams from Eastern Province and Lusaka Province demonstrated their skills. Eastern Province U17 displayed resilience by making a comeback from a two-goal deficit, ultimately earning a 2-2 draw. This match served the dual purpose of identifying young talent and promoting youth football, showcasing emerging talents. Prominent figures in attendance included FAZ general secretary Reuben Kamanga, Eastern Province chairperson Chrispin Kamuna, Lusaka Province counterpart Jordan Maliti, Chief Chinyaku of the Ngoni people, Chipata Central lawmaker Reuben Mtolo Phiri, and Chipata Mayor George Mwanza, all of whom bore witness to this captivating contest. Clive Hachilensa, the captain of the Chipolopolo legends, expressed his gratitude to the fans and underscored their status as the true winners, given their unwavering support. He also encouraged aspiring young footballers to draw inspiration from the exceptional performance of the legends.
