Former Chipolopolo midfielder Rainford Kalaba, affectionately known as "Master" during his illustrious career, has announced his retirement from professional football after spending 13 remarkable years with Congolese and African powerhouse TP Mazembe. In an emotional statement posted on his Facebook page, Kalaba expressed his gratitude and honor for being a part of the Mazembe family during his playing days. He reminisced about the cherished moments he experienced while donning the TP jersey and proudly captaining the team on one occasion. Kalaba's retirement came as a surprise to many, as the midfielder still possessed exceptional skills and game intelligence. Addressing his fans worldwide, Kalaba shared his mixed emotions, stating, "I am sad to announce my retirement. It hasn't been an easy journey for me, but I applaud the efforts and dedication I gave throughout my life." While bidding farewell to his playing career, the Zambian star expressed his enthusiasm for embarking on a new chapter as he would continue working with the TP Mazembe Technical Team. Kalaba's football journey spanned various continents and leagues. He began his career with Afrisport Kitwe United in 2005, where he showcased his immense talent in 26 appearances, scoring an impressive 19 goals. He then ventured to France, representing Nice B team in 2005-2006, before returning to Zambia to join Zesco United from 2006 to 2008, where he netted 23 goals. The midfielder's exceptional performances caught the attention of Portuguese club Braga, where he plied his trade from 2008 to 2010, albeit spending a brief loan spell at Gil Vicente in 2008-2009. During this time, he played 22 games and scored four goals. Kalaba later had a short stint with Leiria, featuring in three games and finding the back of the net once. In 2011, Kalaba made his move to TP Mazembe, where he truly made his mark on the footballing world. He appeared in 280 games for the club, displaying his incredible skills and scoring an impressive tally of 78 goals. The former TP Mazembe star was also an integral part of the Zambian national team, representing his country in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, where they emerged as champions. Kalaba made 103 appearances for Zambia and contributed 15 goals during his international career.
