The Zambia Super League's CAF ranking has dropped from 21st to 23rd after Power Dynamos and FC MUZA failed to progress to the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup and CAF Champions League, respectively. Power Dynamos drew 1-1 with Simba SC of Tanzania on Sunday afternoon but were knocked out on the away goal rule after the two legs ended 3-3 on aggregate. FC MUZA, meanwhile, lost 2-0 to Diables Noirs of Congo Brazzaville on Sunday, meaning they were eliminated 4-1 on aggregate. These results mean that Zambia will once again have no representatives in the group stages of either competition, and their push to regain the four slots they lost on the continent will be even more difficult. Ghana and Mauritania have both overtaken Zambia in the CAF ranking, and it will take a lot of hard work for the Copperbelt nation to improve its standing on the continent. Zambian clubs will need to start performing better in continental competition if the country is to improve its ranking. They will need to go past the qualification stages and reach the group stages of their respective competitions if Zambia is to have any chance of regaining its four slots. It is a disappointing situation for Zambian football, but it is a challenge that the clubs and the association must now face.
