Zambia and Uganda are set to renew their football rivalry today in a friendly match that kicks off at 17:00 Zambian time. The two sides have a long history of rivalry, dating back to October 19, 1964, when Uganda won their first encounter 2-0 in a friendly played in Luanshya just days before Zambia celebrated its independence. Uganda then went on to maintain a better record against Zambia, winning two of the opening four meetings between the two sides and drawing the other two games. However, Zambia then recorded back-to-back victories over their opponents in 1974 and 1975 before going on to lose twice in a row in 1975. Overall, the two sides have played each other 37 times, with Zambia winning 18 games, Uganda winning 13, and 6 ending in draws. In recent years, Zambia has proved to be a dominant force over Uganda, as they are now on a 10-game unbeaten run against their opponents. Zambia has also won the last five games between the two sides, including a 3-1 victory in their last meeting on January 14, 2018, at Stade de Marrakech. Zambia coach Avram Grant will be looking forward to preserving the unbeaten record when the two sides meet this afternoon. Zambia's last defeat against Uganda came over three decades ago, in a 4-2 penalty defeat in CECAFA in 1992 following a 0-0 scoreline in the semifinals of the competition. Zambia has a young squad with a lot of potential, with most of its players plying their trade all over the world. They will be hoping that their exposure to different kinds of football can work to their advantage and extend their winning streak over Uganda to six games in a row. Kick-off at 17:00.
