Ndola-based football club, Zesco United, is on the verge of securing a deal to sign talented defender Mathews Chabala, according to earlier reports by WAMI Katanga. Chabala, 22, was named in the team of the tournament after helping Zambia secure their record-breaking seventh title. He started the tournament as a substitute, but after replacing veteran defender Aaron Katebe in the opener against Malawi, he maintained his position for the rest of the tournament. Chabala has earned caps for Zambia at the Under-20 and Under-23 levels, and at the recently-concluded Cosafa tournament, he made his debut at the senior level. Chabala's arrival at Zesco United will significantly strengthen the club, and he is expected to become a key player for them in the coming seasons.
