The Zambian women's under-20 national team has safely returned home from Kinshasa, DRC, where they went for the 2024 Colombia U20 World Cup second leg qualifier. The team failed to progress to the next round of qualifiers after a goalless draw, which meant that Congo moves to the next round on the away goals rule following a 2-2 draw in the first leg in Lusaka. The team arrived at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at 01:30 via Ethiopian Airlines. Congo will face Burundi in the next round, as they knocked out South Africa to keep their World Cup dream alive. Zambia created a lot of chances at home in the first leg, but their failure to score more goals and poor defending allowed Congo to come from behind twice and secure an all-important draw away from home. The Charles Haalubono-led side knew that the game in DRC was a must-win if Zambia was to have a chance of progressing to the next round after conceding two goals at home. However, the rematch proved to be difficult for Zambia as they failed to score even a single goal, resulting in a 0-0 draw in Kinshasa. The failure of the Zambian women's U20 team to qualify for the next round of World Cup qualifiers is disappointing, but it is important to note that the team is still young and developing.
