Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Andrew Kamanga has confirmed that Zambia will bid for the rights to host the 2029 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament. Kamanga said that Zambia's bid for the 2027 AFCON tournament, which was submitted jointly with Botswana, was unsuccessful because East Africa was given the tournament on the basis that it had not hosted it since the 1970s. However, Kamanga is confident that Zambia will be successful in its bid for the 2029 AFCON tournament, which will be hosted in Southern Africa. "We must look to the window that 2029 presents," Kamanga wrote in his presidential corner on Monday. "East Africa got the rights to host largely because the AFCON had not been hosted in that region since the 1970s and 2029 will surely be Southern Africa's turn. We have enough time to prepare for that bid and will have no reason to fail." Zambia has made nine bids to host the AFCON tournament in the past and was successful once in 1998, but the country was stripped of the rights due to economic challenges. If Zambia is successful in its bid to host the 2029 AFCON tournament, it will be a major boost for the country's football development. It will also be a chance for Zambia to showcase its beautiful country to the world.
